Rock the Vote President Carolyn DeWitt issued the following statement in response to a federal judge striking down Texas’ restrictive voter ID law on Monday, citing that it was enacted with the intent to discriminate against black and Hispanic voters:

“Restrictive and discriminatory laws that disenfranchise minority voters have absolutely no place in our democracy. Today’s ruling also serves as a reminder that our Voting Rights Act stands weakened. We must celebrate pro-voting victories like today’s ruling, but we must also remain vigilant of other suppressive efforts and we must restore the Voting Rights Act.”
