Rock The Vote Calls on the Georgia State Board of Election to Not Certify any Statewide Election Until Every Vote is Counted
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
November 8, 2018
WASHINGTON — Rock the Vote, the national nonpartisan organization dedicated to building the political power of young people, issued the following statement by its president and executive director,Carolyn DeWitt, in response to the uncounted ballots remaining in Georgia:
“Rock the Vote is calling on the Georgia State Board of Election to not certify any statewide election outcome until every vote is counted in this year’s midterm election.
Young people across the state of Georgia turned out to vote — despite lines up to 4.5 hours long, broken voting machines, and missing and pending voter registrations — and many of their voices are still waiting to be heard.
Voting is the backbone of our democracy, and in a narrow election marked by significant issues and voter suppression, election results cannot be determined until every ballot is counted.”
